There are numerous ways to wash a car and there’s a different reason for each method of washing it. For example, if you want to save money, you might consider washing your car on your driveway. If you have money to spare and want it done quickly and less painstakingly, you can consider hiring someone to wash your car for you. In the end, no matter the method you choose, you’re looking for a clean car that you’ll be proud to drive around because, let’s face it, nobody likes to lay their eyes on a dirty and unsightly vehicle.
High Budget Washing
Nowadays, there are seemingly a ton of different places you can go to wash your car. However, you’ll need to choose a place that suits your budget accordingly. If you got the extra cash, there are plenty of car wash services where you can take your car, leave it for an hour so (while you grab a bite or do anything else, such as shop), and come back to find it squeaky clean, inside and out. The downside to this is that it may take a little longer if the car wash service is receiving a lot of customers and it’s generally a more expensive option.
Midrange Budget Washing
If you don’t want to spend too much money but don’t want to wash it yourself either, there are plenty of automatic car wash services, and I’m not just talking about the ones you find at gas stations. There are more affordable car wash services being offered where you can take your car for an automatic car wash, choose the desired washing option (more extravagant cleaning measures are, obviously, more expensive but I find the cheapest option is usually satisfactory enough), and when you’re done you usually get free vacuum, depending on the place you go. The price is different according to every city but the options are usually always very affordable.
Do-It-Yourself!
If you’re feeling a bit frugal and have decided to take on the daunting task of washing your own car… good job, for this is probably the best way to wash any vehicle. The reasons for this are simple; obviously it’s cheaper, but you can also target many areas of the car that automatic washes don’t clean very well such as: the engine, the rims, the wheels and other difficult to target areas. Once you’ve decided this is the way to go, you’re gonna need all your equipment; before you get started you’ll want: car soap, a car sponge (or just a big enough sponge), a bucket, and a water supply (preferably a hose), and a rag to dry off your car (the automotive ones are the best for this). Of course, there are various more supplies you can use, depending on how much you want to work/pay to get your car looking good.
Here’s what you’re going to want to do to:
- use about ¼ cup of soap for the bucket
- fill the bucket about halfway with water
- hose the car to get it slick and remove some dirt
- use the sponge to clean the roof and one side of the car
- hose the soaped part (to prevent soap from drying)
- use the sponge to clean the remaining part
- hose the rest of the vehicle
- dry off with rag (preferably automotive rag because of its water absorption traits)
After this, your car should be clean and ready to show off. If you want to clean the wheels you should use a different rag (the wheels and rims are usually VERY dirty) and include this step before you dry off the entire vehicle. There are products for cleaning the grease off your wheels but you can usually just clean it off with a separate rag and save yourself some money. If you got some extra time, you may want to clean your engine, check out the video below on how to do so. Now, go take that clean ride for a spin!
