How to Clean Car Interior?

18 Nov

Purchasing a car is an investment that one wants to keep in good working order for as long as possible. Mechanical maintenance and body maintenance are of the utmost importance for functionality. Cleaning and maintaining the vehicle’s interior will help to preserve value on the car while giving a comfortable space to travel in. The following guide will help you care for the interior of your vehicle in a simple and effective way.

*Floor Care

Caring for the carpets in a vehicle is a primary point of interest when servicing the interior of a car. The carpet will take the most wear and tear, be exposed to the conditions of weather introduced through occupants feet, and collect most of the grime and dirt that accompany a passenger.

Start by removing the floor mats and placing them on the ground near the vehicle. A vacuum attachment with a narrower end will increase suction and help to pull dirt and debris out of the carpet. Sweep the interior thoroughly with the vacuum. The attachment will make it easier to get between the seats and into awkward places. Do not neglect giving extra attention around the pedals, center console, and under the seats. The floor mats should be vacuumed on both sides while out of the vehicle. Be wary of where you drag the vacuum hose. It is rather easy to damage leather seats or catch the hose on loose cloth.

*Cleaning the Carpet and Upholstery

Several automobile upholstery cleaners are available on the market. Spray the cleaner evenly across the fabric surface to be cleaned and rub vigorously with a cloth. Do not soak the surfaces through with the cleaner otherwise it can get through the cloth and produce a lingering odor. This method of cleaning is appropriate for seats, carpet, and door upholstery.

*Caring for the Dashboard and Console

All of the plastic parts of the interior such as the console and dashboard should be cleaned with a slightly moist cloth. Using a very small amount of laundry detergent one can remove heavy stains from the console and plastics. Polishing the surfaces can be accomplished with a light spraying of polish and detailing with a soft brush. Do not spray polish directly on your stereo or other electronics. It can cause damage and seep in through openings in the piece, subsequently ruining it. Using a polish on the plastics and dash will not only clean it, but help protect it from UV and other damage that it is normally subjected to.

Proper maintenance of your vehicle will leave it in much better shape for a longer period of time. The interior and the exterior have needs that should be addressed to help retain the value of the vehicle while being comfortable. These care tips will ensure you are able to enjoy a comfortable, clean interior for as long as you own the vehicle.
