Brammo and Flextronics announced their new partnership on September 15, 2010. Brammo is an Ashland, Oregon based company that is known for its plug-in electric motorcycles. Flextronics, which is based in Singapore, is an international manufacturing company well-known in the consumer electronics industry.
Flextronics’ automotive segment will take over the manufacturing of Brammo’s motorcycles and electronics components. Brammo is hoping this will help to make its newest electric motorcycle, the Empulsive, more affordable to consumers. The current price ranges from $9.995 to $13,995, depending on the model purchased.
Brammo, a small company, is also hoping to use Flextronics’ footing as a multi-billion dollar international company to launch into the global electric motorcycle market. By partnering with Flextronics, Brammo will be able to produce more motorcycles, thus meeting an internationally growing demand at a much faster pace. Brammo has been manufacturing the motorcycles in Ashland, Oregon, but it’s not certain if this will continue or not.
Brammo’s CEO and founder, Craig Bramscher, stated that Flextronics will be manufacturing the motorcycles in Asia, Europe, and North America. He also stated that the same vendors would continue to be used, so there shouldn’t be any change in the high quality of the components. Flextronics owns thirty offices on four continents. The company will be manufacturing the components in various places, and then assembling the motorcycles nearest to the point of consumption. Brammo has recently been working on creating a dealership and distributorship network across Europe and North America. However, the biggest demand for the motorcycles is expected to be in Asia and Europe.
Flextronics, as a leading electronic manufacturing service, is quite capable of providing Brammo with complete designing, engineering, logistics, and manufacturing services. Basically, Flextronics assists its customers with every phase from creating a design to delivering the actual product.
Flextronics is very well-experienced with providing outsourced electronics manufacturing resources. The company has provided high quality end-to-end solutions for customers such as Microsoft, Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Johnson & Johnson, and Cisco Systems. With Flextronics taking over the production operations, Brammo will be able to focus more on the product design and development aspects of the business.
Brammo’s current product line is the Empulse, the Enertia, and the Brammo Digital Drivetrain systems they supply to OEM’s. The Empulse is expected to become the company’s flagship product. However, the Enertia was recently voted as the electric motorcycle of 2010 by Motorcycle.com. Both models are well-liked by the consumers who own them. Hopefully, this partnership with help Flextronics meet their goals of expanding further into the green technology automotive market and battery powered vehicles. If this partnership succeeds, then we may very well see many more superb electric motorcycles added to Brammo’s already fine product line.
