2009 Porsche Boxster

31 Dec

The Porsche Boxster commands respect. A melodic symphony of speed, power, beauty and agility, the Boxster comes close to art. These are not the sentiments of a few estranged reviewers; aficionados and amateurs alike enjoy the ergonomics and handling of the Porsche Boxster.

Streamlined Speed

Equipped with a base 2.9-liter flat-six powerplant, the Boxster zooms to 60-mph in 5.9 seconds. The Boxster S, which features a 3.4-liter flat-six with 310-bhp, zips by even faster at 5.0 seconds when equipped with the optional PDK transmission and Launch Control, two spiffy new toys Porsche has added. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, while a seven-speed automatic transmission is optional on both the base and the S trims. Engaging in another spurt of technophilic behavior, both engines comes with sophisticated direct fuel injection, upping fuel economy, lowering emissions and improving response time.

The Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system, sport-tuned suspension, and optional rear limited-slip differential make for one breezy ride. The Boxster is, according to reviewers, “pure Porsche.” Its nearly impeccable handling sends the vehicle graciously zipping along corners and through straight-aways. What’s the secret? It could be the horizontal boxer engine, which Porsche places in the center of the car for optimum weight distribution.

Ergonomics & Exquisiteness

The Boxster interior layout is logical, but not especially user-friendly. It takes getting used to. The included gadgets, however, are worth the work. Along with normal amenities and a long list of posh additions, the Boxster sports the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) 3.0 system, which controls the premium audio, navigation and entertainment options.

Created with traditional voluptuous Porsche styling, the Boxster’s roadster shape is well liked by consumers. Motor Trend notes that, in an effort to add more masculinity to the Boxster’s slightly effeminate countenance, the headlights and grille are reshaped to achieve a more menacing appearance.

A retractable soft-top, which can fold in 12 seconds, is fabulous for windy, warm days.

And the kicker? It’s nearly sixty grand. Porsche does not plan on making its cars ubiquitous. But if one has the cash, reviewers and customers alike agree that the Porsche Boxster is one of the best sport roadsters in the world.
